Flies belong to the order Diptera. Flies unlike other insects have only have one pair of wings. Another charactoristic of flies
it that they have a pair of halteres behind their wings that are small and used for balance. The flies people know are house flies,
but these are just two of many types of flies in the order. The household flies are considered a pest as they carry pathogens on their bodies.
Further, flies feeding action of spraying their food with digestive fluids is abhortant to most people. Flies can ruin food by laying
eggs on the food (flyblown). Flies are mainly a seasonal, being a summer pest problem in Auckland.
TREATMENT: A fly at rest is mostly upside down on your ceiling hanging on by its claws. A fly treatment consists of
coating the buildings ceiling with residual insecticide. As the fly only touches the ceiling with its claws it is important that
the concentration of the treatment be at a high level. Also it is common to coat the ceiling with copeous amounts of spray over
a number of coats to ensure the treatment is effective. If the customer has fly generating factors, e.g. live stock or dogs this may
reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Further if you have a large family or extended famliy and prepare a lot of food in your home,
this will encourage flies to enter your home thereby reducing the effectiveness of the treatment.
PROCEDURE: A treatment takes around one hour and there is a two hour stand down period afterwards.
